How to plan your trip to Saigon


Ho Chi Minh City, which is still popular with its former name Saigon, is one of the biggest and most important tourist attractions of Vietnam. Known as the "Pearl of the Far East", Ho Chi Minh City has long been a cultural, economic and political center of the country.

People coming here look for the young and dynamic ambiance of a modern city. Ho Chi Minh City has two distinct seasons: the rainy season from May to November and the dry season from December to April. If you come here in the rainy season, always bring your umbrella whenever you’re outside, because Saigon is famous for its sudden rains. In the dry season, the temperature could be up to 35 to 40oC and the humidity is high. This typical tropical weather can easily exhaust you. Always keep yourself hydrated and don’t forget your sun cream.

The main means of transportation for tourists in Saigon are motorbike and taxi. You can also get a cyclo if you want some unique experiences. However, it’s not a practical way to travel around due to the high fee and the slow speed. If you are comfortable, taking a bus could be an option. It’s one of the cheapest ways to get around. The chaotic traffic during peak hours can be a real problem, even for local people. At its highest peak, around 5 and 6 p.m, a traffic jam can last for 2 hours straight on some main roads. Consider this before you go outside.
