Overview of Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda

Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda is situated on Dang Van Bi Street, Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City. On 8 April 1958, the pagoda was started to build by Monk Thich Tri Dung with the support of Do Thi Vinh, a Buddhist. Its architecture and design were imitated One Pillar Pagoda (Dien Huu Pagoda) in Hanoi, which was constructed in the 11th century. After about 20 years of construction, Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda was completed in 1977. With its unique architectural style, the pagoda has become one of the famous pagodas in Saigon, attracting both Buddhists and tourists to worship and pray for health, luck and success. The architecture

The architecture of One Pillar Pagoda in Saigon is similar to One Pillar Pagoda Hanoi. However, the only different thing between two pagodas is the building materials. Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda is solidly cast with reinforced concrete while the One Pillar Pagoda Hanoi is built with ironwood. In particular, its design, from the layout of worshiping, cross, truss, roof tiles to sophisticated patterns, is strongly affected by the ancient architecture of pagodas in Northern Vietnam. Thanks to its unique architectural features, Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda is regarded as one of the most famous historical relics and scenic spots in Saigon. Getting inside

The green trees, twigs of willow silhouetting the lake, the unique architecture, impressive Buddhist statues of Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda create a perfect harmonious combination between nature and human. The pagoda is located right in the middle of Long Nhan (Dragon Eye) Lake, which covers an area of about 600 square meters. With blue water all year round, Long Nhan Lake is home to turtles and carps. Behind Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda, there is a sanctum solemnly decorated with the texture of three compartments including Shakyamuni Buddha, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. In addition, there are memorial houses of Monk Thich Tri Dung and Nam Thien stupas located behind the sanctum. In particular, visiting the pagoda, you will have an opportunity to contemplate a huge statue of Buddha Amitabha, a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha meditating under the Bodhi tree, and the statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva cast from 61kg of precious metals.
